Horry County golf course reaches $475K settlement with estate of man who died after cart crash
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – A Loris-area golf course has settled with the estate of a man who died after a crash on its grounds.
Public court records show Diamondback Golf Course and the estate of Austin Gormley reached a $475,000 settlement, per a filing submitted Tuesday.
Documents claim Gormley was hit by a course employee driving a course-owned golf cart at Diamondback’s grounds on Oct. 25, 2023. The crash reportedly resulted in Gormley having “multiple pelvic fractures and a closed head injury.”
Gormley died as a result of his injuries on Dec. 6, 2023.
The petition notes that the estate and golf course went into mediation last month before a lawsuit was formally filed.
It also states Diamondback and its insurance company ultimately agreed to pay the settlement to the estate “while denying any liability for the injuries and damages” to Gormley.
