LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – The State Highway Patrol has released new details about the fatal crash between a golf cart and SUV that left two people dead Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 11 and Tulls Mill Road in the Deep Run part of Lenoir County.

Troopers say Robert and Marjorie Jones were killed after being thrown from a golf cart, while the driver of the SUV, Larry Hall, of Pink Hill was not injured.

The Highway Patrol says 80-year-old Robert was driving, with 76-year-old Marjorie in the passenger seat, south on Highway 11.

Troopers say Hall was also traveling south on Highway 11, and he failed to slow down before crashing into the golf cart.

The two, from Kinston, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Trooper Rico Stephens.

Hall was charged with failure to reduce speed and two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle.

The accident shut down the southbound lanes of Highway 11 for nearly three hours Wednesday afternoon.
