Harrison native Eddie Teorsky was a fixture at Highlands High School athletic events for nearly 40 years before his death at age 57 on Jan. 15.
Born with Down syndrome, Teorsky’s popularity within the community led Golden Rams followers to dub him “Mr. Mayor” among other complimentary monikers.
With that in mind, the Alle-Kiski Valley Sports Hall of Fame board will present Teorsky the annual Courage Award at this year’s induction banquet at 7 p.m. May 17 at the Pittsburgh Shriners Center in Harmar.
He will be celebrated among a class of seven area greats and two standout teams: Don Frederick, Jonathan Martin, Jodie Vick McCartney and Jaime Vick, Larry Ondako, Nick Reiser, Paul Sapotichne, Mark Schubert, the 1948 Ford City boys basketball team, and the 1971 Kiski Area football team.
Trib Total Media also will recognize local high school standouts: Leechburg’s Jayden Floyd, Valley News Dispatch Offensive Football Player of the Year; Freeport’s Conor Selinger, VND Defensive Football Player of the Year; Fox Chapel’s Milo Chiu, VND Male Soccer Player of the Year; and Springdale’s Briana Ross, VND Female Soccer Player of the Year.
The four Cager Classic MVPs and the VND Boys and Girls Basketball Players of the Year also will be celebrated that night.
Tickets for the 54th banquet and ceremony are $40 and can be purchased online at akhof.com.
