Week 5 is here and the Ohio high school football season has already reached its mid-point.

To finish the first half of the season, Moeller visits St. Xavier for a sold out Greater Catholic League South opener, Lakota West heads to Middletown to face the Greater Miami Conference‘s only undefeated team and 4-0 Harrison goes on a trip to try and avenge last year’s 21-14 loss to Clinton-Massie.

Roger Bacon hit the road and handed New Richmond its first loss of the season. Tied 7-7 at halftime, New Richmond struck first in the second half, but Roger Bacon followed with three-straight touchdowns, capped by a 37-yard interception return by Vince Guyer. New Richmond quarterback Colton Abner connected with Cohen Manning again with 2:40 left, but the Spartans held on for the victory. Abner completed 20 of his 41 passes for 181 yards and two scores, but was intercepted four times. Guyer had two interceptions on defense. Roger Bacon quarterback Bubba Smart was intercepted twice himself as the teams combined for nine turnovers. Along with his interceptions, Guyer caught six passes for 138 yards and a touchdown.

Undefeated Carroll visited winless Talawanda where the Brave pulled out a 35-12 victory for win No. 1 in 2024. Carroll scored twice in the second quarter to pull within 21-12, but Talawanda ran away with a pair of passing scores in the fourth quarter. Cale Leitch was nearly flawless, passing 18-19 for 230 yards and three touchdowns while also scoring on a rush. Lance Cantrell ran 28 times for 116 yards and a score. Ryan Wright led the receivers with six receptions for 133 yards and a pair of tochdowns.

Midway through the regular season and Anderson is still taking care of business like it has since Week 1. In five games, Anderson has averaged 49.8 points scored while allowing just four points per game. The Raptors amassed 459 yards on offense against Kings. Quarterback Justice Burnam was 24-37 for 321 yards, three touchdowns and an interception through the air while gaining 81 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground. Trace Jallick and Caden Piening each caught a touchdown and had over 100 receiving yards.

Daniel Wallace rushed for two touchdowns while Luke Faler rushed for another to lead Lebanon over Little Miami. Wallace rushed nine time for 81 yards, finding the endzone twice. Quarterback Faler had 33 rushing yards while also going 20-31 for 187 yards through the air. Jack Sako and Hunter Davis each intercepted passes as Lebanon held Little Miami scoreless until Camden Fox ended the shutout in the final quarter.

Princeton took full control of the GMC standings with a blowout of Mason while Middletown fell to Lakota West. Princeton scored 30-straight points before Mason got on the board in the fourth quarter on a fumble recovery in the endzone. While Princeton quarterback Deangelo Birch was picked off twice, he was still 16-19 passing for 253 yards and a touchdown. Eight different Vikings caught passes with Teryntino Brown-Freeman catching a touchdown.

Year two of the Jon and Jamison Kitna run at Lakota East continues to be a success. Jamison, the senior quarterback, was 18-27 for 299 yards and five touchdowns with a pick. Both the touchdowns and yardage are highs for Kitna with the Thunderhawks. Five Thunderhawks caught passes of 21 or more yards, including Jordan Seay’s 65-yard touchdown reception to open the third quarter. Freshman kicker A.J. Fitzstephens scored 11 points on eight PATs and a field goal. Lakota East outgained Fairfield 518-188 with most of Fairfield’s offense from Tyler George’s 97 rushing yards.

The Hamilton Big Blue had a 28-0 lead at halftime and a 34-0 lead in the fourth quarter before Oak Hills scored on a 31-yard touchdown run from quarterback Max Supe with 2:53 left in the game to end the shutout. Hamilton quarterback Antonio Mathis was 10-17 for 146 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Gracen Goldsmith had a season-low 41 rushing yards, but scored in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead. R.J. Shephard-Ruffin caught three passes for 77 yards and two scores. Marlon Reed caught five passes for 52 yards and a score and also intercepted a Supe pass on defense. Oak Hills had just 123 yards as Supe was held to 8-18 passing for 69 yards and an interception. Casey Callahan and Jacob Pizzo had interceptions on defense for the Highlanders.

Trailing Elder 14-7 with 5:05 left in the fourth quarter, Louisville St. Xavier forced an Elder turnover on downs and marched 80 yards in nine plays, scoring a touchdown and two-point try to take a 15-14 lead with 1:47 left on the clock. Elder took over at its 35 and capped an eight-play, 63-yard drive with an Adam Re field goal as time expired. Elder sophomore quarterback Kaden Estep had three big passes on the final drive to Christopher Paff, getting into St. Xavier territory and into the redzone. Estep was 11-16 for 161 yards and a touchdown. Paff caught five passes for 101 yards while Luke Ross caught the touchdown. Joey Thamann netted 100 yards on the ground in 22 attempts. Derek Uran had two sacks on defense while rushing for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Maddox Arnold, a senior linebacker at Elder and a three-star Toledo commit, will miss the rest of the 2024 season. Arnold had surgery for a torn meniscus in his knee.

Arnold was a leader for the 3-1 Panthers who have allowed just over 12 points per game this season. In three games, Arnold had 28 tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery and scored four touchdowns on offense as a short-yardage back.

Despite some losses from some top teams, four Greater Cincinnati schools remain in the top 10, including No. 5 Moeller leading the charge. Nine locals teams overall are ranked in the Super 25.
