SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Gyms across our region are preparing for a surge in people looking to lunge into the new year.
Some fitness centers, like the Edge in South Burlington, say people run to the gym this time of year. It’s the most popular time for new memberships.
Fitness experts say getting into the habit of working out can be hard for some, and it’s best to start slow and set realistic goals for yourself.
“Don’t try to do everything in the first day or the first week of the month. But really, again, find something that you enjoy doing. Number one, get a little bit educated on what things will work best for you, and then stick to it. Then find a plan, find a buddy, work together and set yourself some reasonable expectations so that you can stick it out,” advised Mike Feitelberg, the CEO of the Edge.
Feitelberg says the goal is to make going to the gym comfortable and exciting for new members.
Most clubs, including the Edge, offer new members the opportunity to work with personal trainers to find what works best for them and help turn a resolution into a regular routine.
