MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Two of Memphis’ top fitness influencers are challenging each other and their social media followers to “step it up” in a collective quest to make this a Healthier 901.
The teams are tracking to see who can take the most steps throughout the month of October.
Alton Williams of TRAP Fitness and Kenneth Fleming of Kenetix Performance and Fitness are going head to head as part of the Healthier 901 Challenge.
“I would be lying if I said we didn’t want to bring that trophy in this gym,” Williams said.
“My belief system always is that I’m going to win,” Fleming added.
The goal is to lose one million pounds as a community over three years, and October’s challenge focuses on steps–tracking which team can take the most steps by the end of the month.
Fleming says healthy living has always been a passion for him.
“Before the organization was a thing, that was a phrase we used in my own gym. A healthier 901 is a happier 901,” Fleming said.
Williams says simple changes can make a huge difference.
“Walking is so important because it’s a very nontaxing way to be active throughout the day. It’s something you can do long term that you can see a lot of positive benefits from, like weight loss for example.”
Although the challenge is gym vs gym, everyone is encouraged to participate in the step challenge, no matter your fitness level or access.
“The beauty of it all is start where you are,” Fleming said.
And even though there’s a bit of friendly competition amongst these fitness colleagues, they say the goal is bigger than themselves.
It’s about transforming our community for the better.
“Win or lose, I want to impact Memphis and further in the most positive way that I can,” Williams said.
You can join the challenge by downloading the Healthier 901 app.
Just select the “step challenge” and choose which team you want to join.
