Hometown hero Travis Head has blasted an eighth Test century to put Australia in a dominant position against India on day two at Adelaide Oval.

With friends and family watching on, the South Australian raced towards triple figures in 111 deliveries on Saturday afternoon, feasting on India’s bowling in a brutal display.
Having previously thwarted India in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s and the World Cup final in Ahmedabad, Head is quickly becoming the team’s kryptonite.
The left-hander punished anything wide from India’s seamers while targeting Ravichandran Ashwin, clobbering three sixes against the veteran spinner. He becomes the first South Australian to score three Test hundreds at Adelaide Oval, a venue where he averages 87.85.

Earlier, Indian vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah sent a scare through the Australian camp by toppling Nathan McSweeney and Steve Smith in the first hour of play.
Marnus Labuschagne cracked a patient 64 before falling victim to Indian seamer Nitish Kumar Reddy late the afternoon session, caught at gully after miscuing a late cut.
However, a trademark counterpunch from hometown hero Head calmed any nerves in the Australian dugout.

KATICH TEES OFF AT SLOW OVER RATE
One of the biggest talking points to come out of the opening day’s action at Adelaide was the slower over rate, with former Australian opener Simon Katich particularly vocal on the issue.
Speaking on SEN Radio earlier during the day around the 22nd over, Katich called it “ridiculous” as the hosts ended up bowling 44.1 overs.
“This will be the 22nd over bowled in nearly two hours of cricket,” Katich said.
“I know there has been wickets, but that’s a disgrace. That’s ridiculous.”
As for how to incentivise teams to speed up their over rates, Katich suggested one way to keep captains like Pat Cummins accountable.
“Captains are responsible, we know they are, because they’re the ones that are copping fines,” Katich said.
“But we know the fines aren’t working because it hasn’t changed anything. Potentially it’s going to be suspensions for Test matches.
“And if it’s the very next Test, you’re losing your skipper and that’s maybe how tough it has to be to get this up to scratch because it’s not good enough.”
