Investor and Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary claimed he witnessed President-elect Donald Trump shoot a 68 at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on Sunday afternoon.
O’Leary, who has been a familiar face at Mar-a-Lago since Trump’s November election win, posted an image on his X page of him with Trump and Danielle Smith, the Premier of Alberta.
He commented, “Great day with the #President. A gracious host. And, he shot a 68! My recommendation, try the Trump Burger! @ABDanielleSmith @realDonaldTrump.”
One of O’Leary’s followers demanded to see the Trump Burger and the TV star obliged him:
The Trump Burger did not appear to be from Burger King but O’Leary’s claim about Trump’s card after 18 holes could have very well been a whopper – considering the Trump International Golf Club is a difficult course to navigate. Golf Now rates the course as a “challenging play for golfers at every skill level,” adding:
Well-groomed fairways and greens keep Trump International Golf Club difficult yet friendly, and the staff can offer tips and tricks for playing your best round. Trump International Golf Club is a terrific choice for your regular rounds of golf or a new destination for you and friends when visiting West Palm Beach.
To give some context to how difficult it is to fire a 68 at Trump International: The LPGA held an event on the course annually in the early 2000’s called the ADT Championship — which drew the best players in women’s golf. Jiyai Shin — an 11-time champion on the LPGA tour — won the most recent edition of the tournament in 2008 with rounds of 69, 75, 71, and 70 for a total of 3-under-par.
O’Leary claims Trump shot 4-under-par in just one round on the very same course.
In fairness to Trump, it is highly likely Trump played from shorter tees than the players did in the ADT Championship. And the course was surely set up easier — with slower greens and shorter rough — than it was for such a prestigious championship.
Still, O’Leary — who often refers to himself as “Mr. Wonderful” — is claiming Trump shot a round that was even better than wonderful. A score of 68 on a course of that stature by a 78-year-old player can accurately be called astounding — no matter what tees Trump used.
You could also call it extremely hard to believe.
