Hate week is here again and the women kick things off as they play host to the Iowa State Cyclones on Wednesday night from Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa is looking to get back on the right side of the win/loss columns after suffering their first defeat of the year in their last outing against Tennessee. Not only is it Iowa’s first game since the loss, but it’s also the Hawkeyes’ first game back at home since a November 24th win over Washington State.
For the Cyclones, they come into the night looking to extend a 3-game winning streak. Notably, however, that streak has come against non-power six opponents. Perhaps even more notably, Iowa State comes into the night with a pair of losses. One in their lone road game of the season at UNI and one in their lone matchup against a ranked opponent.
The trip to Iowa City checks both of those boxes as the Hawkeyes enter the contest ranked #21 in the nation.
Iowa State is led by sophomore center Audi Crooks. The 6’3” Algona native leads the Cyclones in both scoring and rebounding at 1.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting better than 58% from the floor.
Beyond Crooks, sophomore forward Addy Brown is also averaging 14.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. With the duo both over 6’2” and both filling up the stat sheet in the paint, Iowa’s posts will have their hands full.
For the Hawkeyes, Lucy Olsen is leading the way, scoring 18.1 points per game with 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists. She’s joined in double figures per game by forwards Addison O’Grady and Hannah Stuelke at 15.2 and 13.8 points per game respectively. Stuelke also leads the team in rebounds at 7.4 per game.
The winner of this one will surely make a move up the rankings and help add a signature win to their March Madness resume.
