CLARKS SUMMIT, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — ANCHOR: We’re two weeks into 2025, and I’m sure many of us have forgotten our resolutions. A popular New Year’s resolution surrounds fitness goals, although some may have trouble sticking to them. FOX56’s Sam Durante visited a Brown’s Gym in Clarks Summit and now joins us live from that gym to bring us some advice on sticking to those resolutions. Sam?
Two weeks ago, the world cheered as they watched the ball drop in New York City. Now, the festivities have died down, and people have returned to work, while trying to balance their resolutions.
“You’re gonna get too busy at some point or another, work may keep you away and you may miss days. Just get back on track and just get back and start again. Give yourself a little forgiveness,” said Jim Brown, the owner of Brown’s Gym.
Starting off strong, a fitness goal can be exciting, and many people may want to work on it every day.
“Don’t overdo it. The first thing everybody does is think they can work out seven days a week. If you do that, you’re going to burn out and you won’t make 10 days, which is probably where the idea of the 10th of January comes around. I would pick 3-4 days a week as my best number of days per week to work out to have success continually,” explained Brown.
Others may still feel the intimidation of entering a new environment, unsure of their next move.
“At first I was a little scared, but I noticed that when you’re here consistently you start to know everybody and form a family connection,” said Cheyenne Dippre, a frequent gymgoer.
With all new equipment in the gym, even lifelong gym rats can be confused at times, but they are always happy to lend a hand.
“No one is watching you as much as you think they are. They all have their own tripods and their own things and they’re more concerned about themselves than you. Don’t be afraid to try new things. We just got a bunch of new equipment and I don’t even know how to use half of it. Don’t be afraid to ask for help,’ explained Dippre.
Using the equipment to your advantage, those at the gym encourage trial and error, to achieve overall success.
“I wouldn’t cut out the gym immediately, but then again it might not be for everybody. You could try it out. Maybe you didn’t like the certain workout you were doing. You could switch up the split. Do something you’re more comfortable with and you’re looking forward to go and do,” said Dippre.
