The Kansas City Chiefs are on the brink of doing something no other NFL team has ever done before (not even Tom Brady and the Patriots): win three consecutive Super Bowls.

The Chiefs look to clinch the three-peat against the Philadelphia Eagles in a 2022 Super Bowl rematch in New Orleans, Louisana, Sunday. If they come out on top, Patrick Mahomes and company will become the first-ever NFL team to hoist three straight Lombardi Trophies.

Last season, Kansas City became the ninth team to ever win back-to-back Super Bowls and the first to do it in nearly two decades. While none of the previous repeat champs were able to reach a third straight Super Bowl, some teams have made it to the game three years in a row. Here’s a look.

How many teams have made three straight Super Bowl appearances?

The Chiefs are just the fourth team in NFL history to make three straight Super Bowl appearances. Here are the three other teams keeping Kansas City company.

Buffalo Bills: The Bills infamously own the record for consecutive Super Bowl appearances with four, but they lost all of them. Buffalo, which has never won a Super Bowl, missed its chance again this year after falling to the Chiefs in the AFC championship game.
Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins are the first team to reach three straight Super Bowls. They were runners-up in 1971 before winning two straight Lombardi Trophies.
New England Patriots: Not even Tom Brady and Bill Belichick’s dynasty could complete this feat. The Pats are the most recent NFL team to make three consecutive Super Bowls from 2016-2018. They lost in 2017, though, which was sandwiched by two championship seasons.
