‘Hard Knocks’ deal to feature Bill Belichick, North Carolina football falls through

Despite reports last week suggesting otherwise, Bill Belichick and North Carolina football will not be featured on “Hard Knocks” this season.
NFL Films reportedly landed on the Tar Heels in Belichick’s first season going back to school as the team to follow for the 2025 offseason. However, after reportedly coming close to an agreement on making UNC the first collegiate team followed by the program, which has been running since 2001, CBS Sports reported the deal fell through on Tuesday.
Pro Football Talk reported that NFL owners did not appreciate a league-owned platform following a college program.
“NFL Films had discussions with Coach Belichick and UNC about appearing on ‘Hard Knocks’ this offseason but couldn’t reach an agreement,” a spokesperson for NFL Media, which includes NFL Films, told CBS Sports on Tuesday.
UNC football was scheduled to open its spring practices on Tuesday. It’s unclear where NFL Films and “Hard Knocks” will follow this offseason.
In the past, the show followed teams through the offseason and into training camp. Last year, the show followed the New York Giants through free agency and the draft for the first time. General manager Joe Schoen’s handling of the Giants’ attempts to re-sign star running back Saquon Barkley ire toward the franchise from its fans. Especially when Giants co-owner John Mara mentioned how seeing Barkley sign with division rival Philadelphia Eagles would not bother him.
In the end, that did happen, and Barkley played a significant role in leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl championship.
