DETROIT (FOX 2) – Grow Detroit’s Young Talent program is back and it might just be the right place for you or someone you know, to get a job.
“It gives youth the opportunity to get a job,” said Dre’Shawn Erwin, of Developing Kids.
If you’re 14 to 24 years old Grow Detroit’s Young Talent could be for you, offering summer jobs with a path to the future.
You just have to log onto the portal to find an opportunity.
Erwin enrolled in the program back in 2019 when he was in college. Now he’s got a full-time job at Developing Kids – a nonprofit in Detroit.
“I believe it’s a great opportunity just to be around kids. You learn so much about yourself, and it also builds character,” Erwin said.
Since its inception in 2015 – GDYT has facilitated nearly 80,000 work opportunities.
“There is something about having a paycheck and a number of these families, that teenager’s paycheck is buying groceries for their families,” Duggan said.
These are real-world work experiences across diverse industries, from technology to public service.
“What we’ve got to continue to talk about for our youth here is talent retention,” said City Council member Fred Durhal III. “We’ve got to connect it to other programs that will encourage young people to stay here and continue to repopulate our city.”
The portal is open until May 16th. Go HERE for a link.
