Former world number one golfer turned sports administrator, Greg Norman, has been appointed as a member of the organizing committee responsible for planning Brisbane’s hosting of the 2032 Olympic games. This comes two weeks after the 69-year-old Australian was removed from his position as CEO and Commissioner of LIV Golf. Greg Norman’s new role was facilitated by Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese.
“I wish I could wind the clock back four decades and compete in 2032, but as a proud Queenslander, it is a privilege to help shape the Brisbane Games,” Norman said after he was announced as the latest addition to the 24-member board. “We will prove our credentials as world leaders in events, sport and hospitality at Brisbane 2032, and create an incredible legacy for this state.”
Although Norman is regarded as a controversial figure with regular clashes with Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, there is general consensus on his accomplishments during his time as LIV Golf’s CEO. Despite stepping down, Norman insists he will remain involved in a less prominent role with the Saudi-Funded breakaway tour.
Scott O’Neil’s appointment as the new CEO of LIV Golf is expected to signal a shift in leadership and strategic direction. While Greg Norman’s New role takes him in a different direction, there are expectations and concerns from fans and players about what Norman’s departure means for the future of LIV Golf.
All eyes will be on him as fans and players look forward to LIV Golf’s next phase of growth under his guidance. O’Neill will also be expected to tackle difficult issues such as expanding internationally, securing sponsorship deals, and maintaining competition with traditional tours like the PGA Tour.
During Norman’s tenure, LIV Golf famously signed high-profile players such as Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and Brooks Koepka, offering lucrative financial packages. Many expect O’Neill to continue to attract top talents while bringing credibility and operational stability to the tour.
