Alabama football got it done Saturday against Georgia. Barely.

The Crimson Tide squandered a huge lead, falling behind the Bulldogs with 2:31 left. Then, Jalen Milroe hit Ryan Williams, who made a circus catch for a long touchdown, before Zabien Brown picked off Carson Beck to seal the win for UA.

Next up, the Tide travels to Vanderbilt. Before that, here are our grades for Saturday’s win.

Offense: B+

Early on, this would have been an A+ without even thinking about it. Before Georgia could blink, the Crimson Tide had a 28-point lead early in the second quarter.

Quarterback Jalen Milroe looked excellent. UA was gashing the UGA defense, but the dominance wouldn’t last.

In the second half, the attack stagnated. If the Crimson Tide had been able to move the ball more consistently, the Georgia comeback would have been much more difficult to pull off.

But when it really mattered, Milroe and company came through. The touchdown throw to Williams got Alabama to 41 points, which should be enough to beat just about everyone.

Certainly not a perfect performance for Alabama. But the offense gets more than a passing grade for that effort.

Defense: A-

Again, not totally perfect. But defensive coordinator Kane Wommack’s unit was giving Georgia fits, especially in the first half.

Alabama made life difficult for UGA quarterback Carson Beck, picking him off three times, including Brown’s game-saving play in the final minute. Beck was sacked three time as well, and was flagged for intentional grounding in the end zone for an Alabama safety while trying to throw out of an aggressive blitz.

The comeback can’t be ignored. While Georgia was getting far too many chances against a tired unit, a few late stops would have put the game to bed before the freshman cornerback managed to.

But once again, facing one of the top teams in college football, Alabama’s defense found a way to win.

Special teams: A

James Burnip might well be the best punter in the country. Graham Nicholson was perfect on extra points and made his first field goal in an Alabama uniform, after missing his first attempt at Wisconsin.

The punt return game looked just fine as well. Overall a great effort from the special teams units.

Overall: A-

It could have been easier. But Alabama beat Georgia, without Nick Saban around to lead the effort.

The Bulldogs put up a fight, but Kalen DeBoer’s group responded when it mattered, and continue undefeated into the next phase of SEC play.
