The Government Communications Office (GCO) and the German Mittelstand GCC Office have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand Germanys participation at Web Summit Qatar, one of the worlds leading global tech events, for the next three editions of the event through the German Startup Pavilion. Signed on the second day of Web Summit Qatar 2025, the MoU aims to strengthen economic and technological collaboration between the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Germany.
The agreement was signed by HE Director of the Government Communications Office Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani, and Vice Chairman and Board member for the German Mittelstand GCC Office Gordon Pelz, in the presence of key officials including HE Deputy Director General at Germanys Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) Dr. Dorothea Schutz, Assistant Undersecretary for Industrial Affairs and Business Development at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Saleh bin Majid Al Khulaifi, Acting Ambassador of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Qatar Thomas Triller, and Regional Director of the German Mittelstand GCC Office Nizar Maarouf, along with representatives of companies and local and international media.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani said: “This MoU embodies Qatars commitment to developing its business environment and attracting startups, including German startups. It also highlights the strong and deep-rooted relations between the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Germany, on all fronts, particularly in the fields of economy and technology.”
On her part, Dr. Dorothea Schutz said: “We are very pleased to participate in Web Summit Qatar 2025 and its impressive to see a German delegation of over 100 participants, representing the largest delegation in this summit. With each edition, the event builds more momentum, encouraging us to fully utilize Qatar’s unique business infrastructure and the promising opportunities the summit provides for all startups and investors.”
Speaking after the event, Saleh bin Majid Al Khulaifi said: “The business environment and investment opportunities in Qatar will attract entrepreneurs and companies from around the world to establish new businesses in Qatar, covering various sectors.” He added: “Our current laws and legislation will further support innovation and growth, enhancing Qatars position as a global platform for innovation and entrepreneurship.”
Similarly, Thomas Triller said: “This years second edition of the Web Summit in Doha is establishing itself as a highly relevant international platform for start-ups, established entrepreneurs and investors to come together and explore common opportunities and chances to collaborate.”
Also speaking on the agreement, Nizar Maarouf said: “Following the success of Web Summit 2024, we are proud to announce the launch of the German Start-up Pavilion, the first of its kind in the region. With over 100 participants from Germany, the strong interest and registrations reaffirm our strategy to foster German engagement in this dynamic market.”
Web Summit Qatar 2025 is already playing a pivotal role in strengthening cooperation between Qatar and Germany, featuring a dedicated German pavilion welcoming CEOs, investors and startups. The event will also offer workshops and panel discussions designed to highlight cutting-edge German innovations and encourage collaboration between German startups and global industry leaders.
