WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University men’s golf team exited day one action at The Mule in ninth place among 20 competing teams Monday (Sept. 9).
The Gorillas, in the program’s first competition since the 2013-14 season, posted rounds of +11 and +14, finishing 36 holes of competition fifth among 11 MIAA schools in the competition. The University of Central Oklahoma fired rounds of -2 and +4 to take a six-stroke lead over second place University of Central Missouri (+8) heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Pitt State’s Carson Towey, a graduate transfer from Wichita, finished day one action in a tie for third place among the field of 104 competitions. Towey shot -3 in the morning and +2 in the afternoon. Sophomore Keaton Thissen (Davenport, Iowa) posted a +6 score (+5/+1) to sit in a tie for 32nd place overall.
Tuesday’s final round action at Mules National Golf Course will start at 8:30 a.m.
