WESTON, Wis. (WSAW) – High temperatures to end the golf season meant packed tee times at Crane Meadows Golf Course on Tuesday.
With temperatures staying in the high 70s for most of the day, employees said it was a busier late autumn on Tuesday than they’re used to.
“A lot of times we’re open this late, but not with weather like this,” Gary Isaacson, a part-time employee at the Crane Meadows Golf Course, said. “Today we are booked completely. We have one tee-time open all day, that’s at three o’clock. All day people were calling, and many were disappointed when we say we don’t have any tee times left, sorry.”
The weather staying warm and dry this late in the season also helps make up for the wetter days at the beginning of the summer.
“It’s been a tremendous help because earlier in the summer we had so much rain, and we had lost I think like 30, 31 days due to rain this summer,” Isaacson said. “So, making up that lost revenue in the fall has been very beneficial to the course.”
Golfers were taking advantage of the extra days of sun.
“The place is just packed. We had to wait a little bit, a little bit longer round because everybody’s out there, but it’s well worth it,” Long-time golfer Dave Sims said. “I’m happy for the golf course because on a day like this, they [courses] can really pack in, and that’s good, we don’t want anybody closing down.”
Sims said he has not seen a season like this for a while.
“It’s been a really good season, not much rain, so that’s good for us for getting out on the course, but it’s been very enjoyable and quite long this year,” Sims added. “We’ve had a couple of seasons that were a lot like this, but they’re very few and far between.”
Tuesday also marks the official end of the season at Crane Meadows Golf Course. However, for many, it did not feel like it was.
“It doesn’t feel like this is the end of the season. Normally it’s cold and people are out here in stocking caps and jackets,” Isaacson said. “I think everybody’s disappointed that it is closing up because it is so nice. It’s been a great, fantastic year, so, we look forward to everybody coming back next year!”
