WOODSTOCK, N.Y. — Defending champion Nick Dilio and six other former winners will headline Monday’s 89th Woodstock Open presented by the Hotel Dylan at the picturesque nine-hole Woodstock Golf Club.
Dilio, an assistant pro at Silo Ridge Field Club in Amenia in Dutchess County, fired a 7-under-par 63 in the third group out last year and no one was able to match him. He took home $3,000 for the victory.
Later in the summer, Dilio fired an 8-under-par 64 to capture the YMCA/Wiltwyck Pro-Am at Wiltwyck Golf Club.
Other former Woodstock Open champions in the field are three-time winners Scott Berliner (2018, 2013, 2007) and John Stoltz (2017, 2016, 2009), 2021 champion Mike Shine, 2020 winner Greg Bisconti, host pro and 2014 winner Chris Sanger and 2001 titlist Dal Daily.
The 72-man field includes 44 professionals, 24 amateurs and four pros competing in the senior division.
Six players entered in the Woodstock Open made the cut at the New York State Open at Bethpage State Park’s fabled Black Course last week. Those making the cut at the New York State Open were former Kingston High star and two-time Ulster County Men’s Amateur Golf Championship winner (The Herdegen) Donte Groppuso (tied for 18th), Stoltz (tied for 23rd), Dilio (tied for 26th), Kingston High boys golf coach Juan Weissenberg of Mohonk Golf Course (tied for 31st), Sanger (tied for 44th) and Bisconti (tied for 55th).
Players who are entered in the Woodstock Open and missed the cut at the State Open are Sawyer Morgan, Dave Fusco, Kyle Kressler and Scott Battiste.
Among the local pros competing in the event are Twaalfskill Club pro Jeff Schaller, Andrew DeForest of The Swan Golf and Country Club in Saugerties, Wiltwyck Golf Club head pro Trevor Alexander and unattached pro Darryl Jack.
The first threesome will tee off at 8 a.m., featuring Sanger, Schaller and Battiste.
The afternoon wave will tee off at 12:30 p.m., with a featured 2:09 p.m. group of Dilio, Shine and DeForest teeing off in the last group.
