KELLEYS ISLAND, Ohio — Three women were flown by helicopter to hospitals in Toledo and Cleveland after they were ejected from a golf cart when it crashed into trees Friday night.
A news release from the State Highway Patrol says Eleanor Austin, 27, of Clyde, was taken to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, while Stela Francic, 25, and Brenda Mesa, 21, both of Sandusky, were flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. All suffered serious injuries in the crash, the patrol says.
Rescuers were called at about 6:46 p.m. Austin reportedly was driving a 2017 E-Z-GO golf cart northeast on Division Street when she lost control and went off the right side of the road and rolled into nearby trees. Austin and the two passengers were thrown from the cart.
The Kelleys Island Police Department, Kelleys Island Fire & EMS, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Cleveland Clinic Life Flight, Cleveland Metro Life Flight, and Mercy Life Flight all responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
