Golden State Warriors’ Steve Kerr keeping an optimistic viewpoint

The Golden State Warriors have lost three straight games. They currently sit third in the Western Conference with 12 wins and six losses. After some impressive defensive performances at the beginning of the season, Golden State has struggled to maintain its intensity. However, head coach Steve Kerr is remaining upbeat.

When speaking to the media as part of his postgame news conference, Kerr tried to keep everything in perspective. He admitted that losing three straight games hurts and is far from ideal. However, he also noted that in an 82-game season, three losses aren’t enough to begin hitting the panic button and looking for wide-ranging changes.

“I loved everything I saw in the last three quarters,” Kerr said. “The energy, the defense, the rotations. Guys were flying around. A lot of good individual contributions…That’s who we are. It’s exciting to me to see the defensive excellence we saw over the last three quarters. Tough loss, obviously three in a row but 82 game season. We’re gonna be just fine we’ve got a really good team.”

De’Anthony Melton’s season-ending ACL injury appears to have removed some of the bite from Golden State’s point-of-attack defense. Yet, multiple encouraging stretches of play have occurred over the past three games. Still, the Warriors must find a way to maintain leads and close out difficult contests.

Kerr is right to keep a long-term focus on the season. We’re less than a quarter of the way through the basketball calendar. There are plenty more games to play, and judging by how the Warriors started the opening weeks, there’s every reason to remain optimistic that the team will figure things out.
