The offseason may just be starting up for the New York Giants, but there is already plenty of talk about which direction they will go in terms of adding a quarterback.
With Daniel Jones off the roster and Drew Lock set to hit free agency, the only quarterback under contract is expected to be Tommy DeVito, who is an exclusive rights free agent.
So if they have a chance to land one of the top two quarterback prospects in the draft with the No. 3 pick, it’s difficult to imagine them passing on either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders.
However, that’s exactly what they did in the latest mock draft predictions from Lance Zierlein of NFL.com.
In his latest mock, the Giants had a chance to grab Sanders with the No. 3 pick after Ward and Penn State’s Abdul Carter went with the two picks ahead of them. Instead, they went with Sanders’ teammate and Heisman winner Travis Hunter.
“Two-way talent in the Big Apple! I like it! The Giants had the second-fewest interceptions in the league in 2024 (five). The ballhawking Hunter can help New York do a better job of taking the ball away — and score some touchdowns as a part-time receiver,” Zierlein wrote.
Hunter appears to be the type of talent that is deserving to go with the No. 1 overall pick, but it remains to be seen how teams will want to utilize him.
As a wide receiver in 2024, Hunter recorded 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. Defensively, he had 36 tackles (25 solo), four interceptions and 11 passes defensed while allowing a 38.8 passer rating against, according to Pro Football Focus.
