Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will miss the NBA All-Star game next weekend as a result of a calf strain that has kept him out all week, per multiple reports. The injury will reportedly keep him out through the week.
Antetokounmpo, who was named as an Eastern Conference starter, has missed three games so far with the injury. The 30-year-old forward has not played since Feb. 2, where he put up 30 points in a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Antetokounmpo was selected to Team Chuck for the All-Star game, which will be a pickup-style tournament, with four teams in total, as part of the league’s efforts to revive the All-Star weekend. Two semifinal games will be played to 40 points, with a championship played to 25; the games will take place next Sunday.
This year marked Antetokounmpo’s ninth All-Star selection in 11 seasons in the league. Antetokounmpo earned the most votes in the Eastern Conference, both in terms of player votes and fan votes, on his way to being named an All-Star starter.
It is unclear who the NBA will select to replace Antetokounmpo.
The Greek forward is reportedly expected to return to the court after the All-Star break. He is set to miss three more games: Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, plus a game on Monday against the Golden State Warriors and on Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Bucks’ first game after the break is on Feb. 20.
