Things got ugly at the end of a high school basketball game in Georgia earlier this month.
Police are investigating an altercation that took place on the court during a game between Sonoraville High School and Rockmart in Calhoun on Jan. 3, according to TMZ.
A Rockmart player pushed a Sonoraville player and then punched him in the face — before he landed a second punch on another player from the opposing team, as seen in a video that surfaced on social media.
The 16-year-old Rockmart player was allegedly provoked by the Sonoraville player because he “kept calling him the N-word and he lost his temper,” according to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
The Rockmart player is facing two charges of simple battery, according to the police report.
The violent scene occurred with less than four minutes to play in the third quarter.
The Rockmart player shoved the Sonoraville athlete to the ground, who got up before being knocked down again by the punch.
Another Sonoraville player ran toward the melee and was hit with a haymaker by the Rockmart player.
People in the crowd could be heard yelling, while others ran from the stands and the benches to intervene.
The Rockmart player was held back by multiple people before the video cut out.
As of Thursday morning, both schools have yet to publicly address the incident.
