CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — Three people were arrested for gambling violations after a police raid at two delis on Long Island on Monday, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said community complaints sparked a compliance check at two Lempa Deli locations in Central Islip, one on Calebs Path and one on Carleton Avenue, around 7:30 p.m.

During the raid on Calebs Path, officers found three illegal gambling machines and observed a person using one, police said.

Police said they also found two illegal gambling machines at the Carleton Avenue deli.

Officers arrested the manager of the Caleb’s Path location, Saul Reyes, 49, of Port Jefferson Station, and the owner of the Carleton Avenue location, Jose Caneses-Escobar, 47, of Brentwood, and charged both men with possession of gambling devices, police said.

A patron of that deli, Mario Zavala, 42, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged with loitering for the purpose of gambling, police said.

Police said they seized five illegal electric gaming devices and the men arrested are slated to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
