The Guthrie County Veterans Affairs Office is hosting a presentation of a gambling addiction program on Wednesday.
Veterans Affairs Coordinator Beth Watson says that New Opportunities Gambling Addiction Specialist Dorinda Wehde will be presenting from 11:30am to 1pm in the public meeting room on Wednesday. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio what Wehde will cover.
“It’s a fantastic presentation of the story, the statistics, between what veterans go through and the impulsiveness, and then kind of the impulsiveness that attracts them with gambling.”
Watson mentions that this program falls in line with an initiative that Guthrie, Adair and Audubon Counties are working on this year, which is a focus on the prevention of veteran suicide from stress, gambling, and a few other factors. She adds that the three counties have also collaborated on a poster that they will be taking to different establishments in each county, like restaurants, bars and many more, that have information on how to spot if someone might be getting ready to end their life.
