Future Is Now won for the fourth time in her last five
starts, charging down the stretch to take the lead in the final furlong for a
6-1 upset victory by three-quarters of a length Sunday in the Grade 2, $303,244 Franklin Stakes at Keeneland.
The 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint for fillies and mares was delayed more than 45
minutes by a power failure that delayed the last three races on the card.

Future Is Now stalked in second place up the backstretch
before she made a decisive move coming off the turn. Just past the eighth pole
she reeled in rail-hugging pacesetter Stone Silent (16-1), an also-eligible
entrant who drew into the race.
Star of Mystery (4-5), who won the Quick Call (G3) on July
14 for trainer Charlie Appleby, made a late run from the back third of the
12-horse field, fighting off traffic by splitting horses to finish second under Flavien Prat. Pandora’s Gift (40-1), making her first start
on U.S. turf, finished another half-length back in third. Stone Silent faded to come in yet another neck behind in fourth.
Future Is Now has stakes wins this year in the The Very One at
Pimlico, the Intercontinental (G2) during Belmont Stakes week and last out Aug.
23 in the Smart N Fancy. Those last two were at Saratoga as was her lone loss
in that run. That was her third-place finish by only a half-length in the
Caress (G3).
