MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Whether it’s golfing on the green or skiing on the slopes, the warmer Wisconsin winter opened the door for enjoying some outdoor activities out of season.
Prairie Pines Golf Club in Sun Prairie started its season early. Co-owner Jen Simon said this is the earliest she has opened in her three years of co-owning the course.
“Last year, we opened on February 28th, which was very early for the season,” said Simon, “But two years ago we opened in early April, so it seems like each year we’re opening earlier and earlier.”
She said that golfing during the winter months is something some golfers did not want to pass up.
“We’re very excited to be out here and letting people just do what normally they’d have to travel to do this time of year,” said Simon.
Since they opened in late January, some specifically enjoyed being able to say they’ve golfed in every month of the year- so far!
While the greens were busier than the average February day, Cascade Mountain ski slope was packed with Wisconsinites enjoying their winter sport.
Cascade Mountain Operations Manager Evan Walz said the early spring has come too soon, but their made snow is sticking around.
“It’s been an awesome season so far, a little bit of a warm-up these past couple of days but other than that, it’s been nothing but great conditions,” said Walz.
Even with temperatures above average, the slopes remain open, and snowboarder Paulina Filar made her way down the mountain, soaking it up before the season ends.
“It has been great, I’ve been able to snowboard, I’m going to ski today, I’ve been trying to learn skiing more, but the season has been great,” said Filar.
Despite the lack of natural snowfall, Cascade stayed busy this winter season.
“Even if you’re not seeing it in your backyard, come here and we’ve got plenty of snow,” explained Walz.
Before the snow season wraps up and spring is here to stay, hitting the green or the slopes is possible on the same day.
“Everyone that is out here is in a really good mood, so they just are happy to be here. Whatever Mother Nature brings, we’ll just roll with the punches,” said Simon.
