With many top horses at Del Mar for the Breeders’ Cup, Friday was a light day for works by graded-stakes winners.

Master Piece, the 8-year-old ridgling trained by Rick Dutrow, breezed four furlongs in 48.6 seconds at Belmont Park, 13th fastest of 82 at the distance.

Since being moved to Dutrow’s care last year, Master Piece has compiled a record of 9: 2-1-2, with wins in the Grade 2 Red Smith last and the Fort Marcy (G2) this year. In his most recent start he was third in the California Crown (G1), missing by a head to There Goes Harvard for second behind winner Cabo Spirit.

Master Piece was one of 11 graded-stakes winners with published works Friday.

Master Piece (Mastercraftsman), a three-time Grade 2 winner (2024 Fort Marcy, 2023 Red Smith, 2022 Eddie Read), worked four furlongs in 48.6 seconds at Belmont Park on Friday morning. It was the 13th fastest of 82 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start, he placed third in the John Henry Turf Championship (G2) going 1 1/4 miles on the turf at Santa Anita on Sept. 28 for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr.

Public Sector (Kingman), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2021 Hill Prince, 2021 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame), worked four furlongs in 50.7 seconds at Palm Meadows on Friday morning. It was the 24th fastest of 39 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Palm Meadows. In his last start, he placed seventh in the Seagram Cup (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic at Woodbine on July 27 for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

Can Group (Good Samaritan), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Bourbon), worked four furlongs in 48.9 seconds at Palm Meadows on Friday morning. It was the seventh fastest of 39 works at the distance. Idea Generation (Dubawi), a Grade 2 winner (2024 Flower Bowl), worked four furlongs in 49.3 seconds on turf at Saratoga on Friday morning. It was the third fastest of 10 works at the distance. Her previous work was 14 days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In her last start, she placed sixth in the Waya (G3) going 1 3/8 miles on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 4 for trainer Chad Brown.

Background (Khozan), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Longacres Mile Handicap), worked three furlongs in 37.6 seconds at Churchill Downs on Friday morning. It was the second fastest of four works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start, he placed seventh in a claiming race going six furlongs on the main track at Keeneland on Oct. 13 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
