With many top horses at Del Mar for the Breeders’ Cup, Friday was a light day for works by graded-stakes winners.
Master Piece, the 8-year-old ridgling trained by Rick Dutrow, breezed four furlongs in 48.6 seconds at Belmont Park, 13th fastest of 82 at the distance.
Since being moved to Dutrow’s care last year, Master Piece has compiled a record of 9: 2-1-2, with wins in the Grade 2 Red Smith last and the Fort Marcy (G2) this year. In his most recent start he was third in the California Crown (G1), missing by a head to There Goes Harvard for second behind winner Cabo Spirit.
Master Piece was one of 11 graded-stakes winners with published works Friday.

In his last start, he placed third in the John Henry Turf Championship (G2) going 1 1/4 miles on the turf at Santa Anita on Sept. 28 for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr.
Public Sector (Kingman), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2021 Hill Prince, 2021 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame), worked four furlongs in 50.7 seconds at Palm Meadows on Friday morning. It was the 24th fastest of 39 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Palm Meadows.
