It wasn’t so long ago that Hunter Renfrow entered the Raiders record books with 103 catches in a season and headed to the Pro Bowl. That was the 2021 season. He would earn a new long term deal from the Raiders and two seasons later was released without signing with a new team.
He was out of football last season and at this point it was thought that perhaps he was done with his playing days.
Not so fast, said Renfrow.
An account called “NFL rumors” seemed to have heard a bad one because they “reported” Renfrow had announced he had retired. This had Renfrow send his first post on social media since his release a year ago, stating that in recent months he has been working to make a comeback.
The community note “No, he hasn’t” sent me too.
It’s unclear just why Renfrow didn’t sign with a team last season, but concussions are thought to have been the reason. It would make sense to take some time away to get right again if that were the case. And it would have been understandable if he had retired to avoid long term damage.
But he is pushing to return this season and I would expect some team has use for a supreme route-running slot target who excels at getting open on third down and can do a decent bit of return duties as well.
