A former Colorado State University football player is accused of sexually assaulting a woman while attending CSU.
In May 2024, an adult woman reported to Fort Collins Police Services that a male acquaintance sexually assaulted her after they were out drinking and socializing with a group of friends in downtown Fort Collins in April 2023, according to a police news release. The woman told police they shared a ride to the man’s residence where she says he sexually assaulted her.
Police said detectives interviewed “multiple witnesses to that evening’s progression” as part of the investigation.
An arrest warrant was issued for Aaron Moore, 23, for sexual assault involving a helpless victim, a Class 3 felony, and sexual assault involving a victim who is unable to appraise their conduct, a Class 4 felony, according to the press release.
Moore turned himself in at the Larimer County Jail on Tuesday morning, according to police. A $5,000 cash bond was set in the case Tuesday afternoon.
Moore was a CSU student at the time of the alleged assault, police said. He is a former CSU football player and former team support staff member.
Moore joined the team as part of Steve Addazio’s 2020 recruiting class. He played in all four of CSU’s games in the COVID-shortened 2020 season as a freshman, but missed the 2021 and 2022 seasons due to injuries before transitioning to a student intern role in 2023. Moore was hired as a “defensive graduate assistant” for the 2024 season. He is no longer on CSU’s staff.
Based on the investigation, Fort Collins police say they believe additional victims may exist. Anyone with information about this case or other incidents can contact criminalist David Blake at dblake@fcgov.com or share information anonymously through Larimer County Crime Stoppers.
