NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – In this edition of FFF: Texas State football about to explode on the scene, New Orleans-area soccer on fire, and patience is a virtue at Popeyes.
FOOTBALL
In their first year as an ACC member, SMU made an appearance in the College Football Playoff. The meteoric rise for the Mustangs has to do with deep alumni pockets and great facilities on the Dallas campus.
So who’s the next football program to pop up on the national stage, keep an eye on the Texas State Bobcats.
The school is located in San Marcos, Texas. That’s an hour away from Austin and San Antonio. So a football rich area to recruit from.
Texas State has an enrollment of 40,000 students, and is a well-known party school.
They’ve won eight games the last two seasons, and things should only get better with G.J. Kinne as the head coach.
Now I’m not the only one that is noticing the rise of the Bobcats. They’re currently in the Sun Belt, but the Pac-12 needs another football member in 2026.
Texas State step right up.
FÚTBOL
The New Orleans area is dominant in two high school sports, football and soccer.
In December, our local schools won three state titles. In Hammond, dominance was amped up to another level.
There was six schools involved in state soccer championship games. It was a clean sweep of titles, 6-0.
The Newman girls and boys, Mt. Carmel, Holy Cross, St. Paul’s, and St. Scholastica took home the championship trophy.
This just doesn’t happen by surprise either. The New Orleans area is serious about club soccer. From five years old on, these kids play the “beautiful game.”
All that preparation paid off with an undefeated run at Strawberry Stadium.
FOOD
It’s an absolute must in the Carnival season to make a visit to Popeyes. I can’t get to Mardi Gras day and not have some spicy chicken, red beans and rice, with a biscuit.
This also means you have to visit Popeyes, where absolutely anything can happen.
I went this weekend and here’s my play-by-play of the experience:
– Order 12-piece family meal all dark and spicy, that comes with two sides and six biscuits
– I was informed it would take 12 minutes at the drive-thru, I said no problem.
– 25 minutes later, I walk out of my parked car and enter Popeyes
– I’m informed they forgot about my order, but now I get six more pieces of chicken and an extra side if I wait 12 more minutes
– 20 minutes later I get my order with a soft drink included
So to recap, 45 minutes for chicken. Was it great, you bet, but my goodness you better have patience when you order at Popeyes.
