A Florida football coach will serve a suspension after being assessed with two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during a state semifinal game in December, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune’s Doug Fernandes.
Here’s the fun part. Booker High School’s Scottie Littles also coaches the school’s flag football team, which kicks off its inaugural season this spring, and Littles will serve the 3-game suspension during that season rather than during next year’s football season.
A bit of a head scratcher.
Littles was ejected during his team’s 28-23 loss to Jacksonville Raines when he continually used profanity to argue a holding penalty against his team. He was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.
It was his second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty of the game. His first came after a pregame taunting incident between the two teams, in which both head coaches were give unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for failing to control their teams.
According to Fernandes, Booker High was also fined $550, the Florida High School Athletic Association has requested that Booker’s administration conference with Littles, and he must complete a six-hour “Teaching and Modeling Behavior” course offered by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Littles was also suspended before the begin of the past football season. He served a 3-game suspension for violating the improper contact and impermissible benefits policy.
Booker had a fine season finishing 10-4 and reaching the state semifinals, and three of its athletes are player of the year nominees for the 2024-25 Sarasota-Manatee High School Sports Awards Defensive Football Player of the Year award. Kevontay Hugan, Chauncey Kennon and Jordan Radkey are among 24 finalists for that honor. Teammates Ryan Downes and Tyren Wortham are finalists for the Offensive Football Player of the Year award, as well.
The 2024-25 Sarasota-Manatee High School Sports Awards, Presented by Sarasota Ford, are May 30 at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota. Tickets will be available soon.
