Florida basketball has dropped one spot to No. 5 in the latest CBS Sports Top 25 and 1 rankings following a disappointing 64-44 defeat to the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday.
In what was expected to be a tightly contested matchup between two top-ranked teams, the Gators struggled to find their rhythm offensively. Florida shot a mere 24.5% from the field and an even more lackluster 14.8% from three-point range, factors that contributed significantly to their 20-point loss.
The Volunteers showed dominance on both ends of the court and did something that Florida isn’t too used to seeing which is being out-rebounded. Tennessee out-rebounded the Gators 40-37.
Florida will look to turn the page and move on from this frustrating defeat as they host the Vanderbilt Commodores on Tuesday. As the season progresses, the Gators are keen on adjusting their strategies to avoid another shooting slump.
Here are where the teams from the SEC rank in CBS Sports’ latest Top 25 and 1 rankings.
20. Mississippi State Bulldogs
17. Ole Miss Rebels
14. Missouri Tigers
12. Texas A&M Aggies
5. Florida Gators
4. Tennessee Volunteers
3. Alabama Crimson Tide
The Gators return home to host the Vanderbilt Commodores on Feb. 4. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
