Instead of snow and ice, it is too much incoming rain that
forced Oaklawn to pre-emptively call off Thursday races.
“With forecasted severe weather and flash flooding, the
Thursday, Jan. 30, race card has been moved to Monday, Feb. 3,” the track
racing office said in a text message to horsemen Wednesday afternoon. “No
training Thursday, Jan. 30.”

Nine overnight races worth a combined $380,000 in purse
money will be run Monday as drawn. Ninety horses were entered.
The National Weather Service is starting a 24-hour flood
watch Wednesday at 6 p.m. CST. A 100% chance of precipitation is in the forecast
with up to four inches of rain possible before the storm ends Thursday night.
It is expected to be clear and dry Friday through at least
Monday at Oaklawn.
This will mark the fifth time this month that weather
disrupted the racing schedule in Hot Springs, Ark. Wintry conditions forced
postponements Jan. 10, 11, 12 and 20.
