High school girls basketball season has flipped the page to 2025 and we enter the heart of the regular season. Here is the first set of Power Rankings of 2025. Expect rankings every week for the remainder of the regular season.
1. Goodrich (6-2)
The Martians lost their second game of the season over the holiday stretch — a three-point loss to Wayne Memorial — but have since bounced back with comfortable wins over Grand Blanc and Ortonville Brandon. The dominant stretch should continue over the next couple of games with winless teams in Lake Fenton and Swartz Creek up next.
2. Powers Catholic (5-3)
It’s been a tough stretch for Powers Catholic as it has lost three of its last four. It stings a little more considering all three losses were two possessions or less against good teams with a 56-50 loss to Frankenmuth, a 53-50 defeat against unbeaten Pewamo-Westphalia, and a 70-68 overtime loss to Mount Pleasant. It faces Midland Dow on Friday and travels to Lansing Waverly on Tuesday.
3. Hamady (6-1)
Hamady has now won six in a row, including a dominant 78-26 win over Flint Elite to open the 2025. It faces Arbor Prep on Thursday night before getting winless Burton Bentley on Friday to close a busy week.
4. New Lothrop (6-1)
At this point of the season, New Lothrop has already established itself as the team to beat in the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference. It’s 53-24 win over Otisville LakeVille drove that point home as New Lothrop took sole possession of first in the conference with the win. Montrose and Byron are up next.
5. Genesee Christian (5-1)
The Soldiers didn’t play over the holiday stretch but did return to action in dominant form this week with a 69-20 win over Morrice. It has a busy end to the week with Owosso and unbeaten Webberville on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
6. Genesee (7-2)
With junior Averie Zinn playing she has been so far, its a wonder how the Wolves have lost any games. Zinn scored 54 points with 13 rebounds, 11 steals and seven assists in an 80-61 win over Flint Elite. Morrice is up next on Friday.
7. Davison (5-2)
Davison suffered a 45-33 loss to Port Huron Northern to cap 2024 but opened 2025 this week with a 35-13 win over North Branch. It hosts a solid Birmingham Seaholm team on Thursday before traveling to face Saginaw United on Friday.
8. Grand Blanc (4-3)
Grand Blanc returned from a long break last week and suffered its third loss of the season, a 55-39 defeat against Goodrich. The Bobcats have since beaten Saginaw United, 49-35, but now prepare for a very good Saginaw Heritage team next Tuesday.
9. Fenton (4-2)
Fenton ended 2024 with a tough 54-48 overtime loss to Waterford Kettering but bounced back with a 51-44 win over Kearsley to open the new year. An important FML Stripes game awaits on Friday as it travels to Linden.
