The high school boys basketball season is into the exciting 2025 portion of the season when division, league and conference races begin to heat up and rivalry matchups become more comon. Here are the first set of Flint-area power rankings of 2025.
1. Powers Catholic (9-0)
Powers is looking very strong entering 2025 as seven of its nine wins have been against teams that currently have winning records. The end of this week provides a nice test of durability as it faces Midland Dow on Friday and Mt. Morris on Saturday.
2. Carman-Ainsworth (7-0)
The Cavs continue to roll and picked up a quality 55-51 win over Pewamo-Westphalia last week. It was supposed to have an intriguing matchup with River Rouge on Wednesday but it ended up being canceled. It now looks toward Midland on Friday and Saginaw United on Tuesday.
3. Grand Blanc (4-4)
Grand Blanc’s 59-57 win over Detroit Catholic Central last week was its only win in its last four games. Coming off a 71-62 loss to Saginaw United, Grand Blanc will aim to get back on track at East Kentwood this weekend when it faces Byron Center. It has a very tough stretch coming up.
4. Davison (2-3)
The Cardinals entered 2025 with a 1-3 record but got the new year off on the right foot with a 70-42 win over Mt. Morris. It faces Saginaw United on Friday before a very tough East Lansing team visits on Tuesday next week.
5. Lake Fenton (6-1)
Lake Fenton notched a 77-60 win over Owosso to get 2025 opened on the right note. Things get a bit tough over the next couple days as Goodrich awaits on Friday before it faces one-loss Burton Bendle on Saturday. Then, Kearsley is up on Tuesday.
6. Swartz Creek (6-2)
Despite it still being early in league play, Swartz Creek already sits alone atop the FML Stripes Division. It will look to stay that way against Flushing on Friday before playing Stars Division foe Goodrich on Tuesday.
7. Kearsley (5-3)
Kearsley had a dominant 87-62 win over Fenton to start the week and it should keep rolling against Holly on Friday. A big matchup with Lake Fenton awaits on Tuesday.
8. Goodrich (5-4)
The Martians have won two in a row for the first time this season with wins over Saginaw United and Ortonville Brandon. It will hope to keep the streak going in a tough matchup with Lake Fenton on Friday.
9. Mt. Morris (8-2)
Mt. Morris started 7-0 but has lost two of its last three, including a blowout 70-42 loss to Davison. Still unbeaten in Mid-Michigan Activities Conference play, the Panthers turn their attention to conference foe Birch Run on Thursday before a big test on Saturday against Powers. The difficulty stays high into next week with a trip to Durand on Monday.
10. Durand (8-1)
If Durand can take care of business against Chesaning on Thursday night, it’ll set up a big Mid-Michigan Activities Conference home matchup with Mt. Morris on Monday next week.
