A number of events and places lay claim to Solheim Cup captain Stacy Lewis, but it all started in Toledo, Ohio, where she was born on Feb. 16, 1985. Over the years, the two-time major champion has learned how to manage the demands of playing at “home,” whether it’s in Texas, Arkansas or Ohio, and she was pumped to open the Dana with a 4-under 67.
“I worked on some things last week and I’ve been working on it for the last few months,” said Lewis, “so been hoping for a day like this for a while.”
Lewis’ husband, Texas A&M coach Gerrod Chadwell, is on the ground this week caddying for NCAA champion Adela Cernousek, who is playing on a sponsor exemption. Lewis said it’s been fun seeing the event through an amateur’s eyes. Cernousek has been adopted as a member of the Lewis family this week too, dining each night with 30-plus family members.
“My family does a great job,” said Lewis. “We have dinner at one of my aunt’s house every night and they really take care of us, so I don’t have to worry about anything.”
