The transfer portal was a beast last offseason. Several high-level players sought out new programs and plenty of them have already made a significant impact. On3 looks at five impact players who transferred into the Big 12.
Hailey van Lith has undeniably been the best transfer addition to TCU and the Big 12. She spent her first three seasons thriving at Louisville before transferring to LSU, where she had a bit of a down year. She chose to use her fifth year rather than declaring for the WNBA Draft, and she’s been a major reason for their early success.
Last season with LSU, van Lith averaged 11.6 points, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals. This season with the Horned Frogs, she’s averaging 19.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.6 steals. She’s cemented herself as an early contender for NPOY honors.
Sydney Shaw spent the first two seasons of her college career at Auburn, where she was a part-time starter. The 5-foot-9 junior transferred to West Virginia this offseason and has nearly doubled her offensive output.
Last season, she averaged 6.6 points. This year with the Mountaineers, she’s averaging 12.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2 steals.
Oklahoma State’s addition of Tenin Magassa went pretty understated during the offseason. Magassa, a 6-foot-6 center from France, spent two seasons with Dayton and two seasons with Rhode Island before joining the Cowgirls for her last year.
Last season with URI, she averaged 7 points, 4.6 rebounds and two blocks. She’s improved that production, even after transferring into an elite power conference. She’s averaging 9.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1 steal and 1.5 blocks.
Temira Poindexter was one of the nation’s leading scorers last year at Tulsa, but no one knew how she’d adjust after transferring to Kansas State. The answer? She’s adjusted just fine.
Last season, she averaged 21 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. With Kansas State, the 6-foot-2 senior has averaged 11.3 points, 2.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks.
Aaronette Vonleh was one of the best players on Colorado for the last two seasons. She began her career with Arizona before transferring to the Buffaloes. But this offseason, as Colorado transitioned to the Big 12, so did she – with Baylor.
Last season with Colorado, Vonleh averaged 14 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. This year with the Bears, she’s averaging 14.6 points and 5.5 rebounds.
