A suspect is in custody after police located the body of a missing Georgia mother and TikTok fitness influencer near the WalMart where she was last seen one week ago.
On Tuesday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations reported in a statement that they discovered the remains of 25-year-old Minelys Zoe Rodriguez-Ramirez. That same day, 24-year-old Angel DeJesus Rivera-Sanches was arrested in Atlanta on kidnapping charges in connection with Rodriguez-Ramirez’s murder. Authorities say he will be charged in the imminent future.
Rodriguez-Ramirez was last seen on Oct. 22 at a WalMart in Cornelia, GA. At around 9:30 p.m. that evening, Rodriguez-Ramirez sent a text to her fiancé, Julio Tovor, which read: “I am waiting for the brother to pick him up.” But Tovor doesn’t believe Rodriguez-Ramirez sent that message. “It didn’t make sense. She doesn’t talk like that,” he told Now Habersham News.
Rodriguez-Ramirez moved from Puerto Rico six years ago with her daughter, who is now nine, after she got a job with local manufacturing company Mt. Vernon Hills Inc. Rodriguez-Ramirez was also well-known as an influencer on TikTok, where she posted about her fitness journey. Unfortunately, her daughter left America shortly after arriving and returned to Puerto Rico to live with her father.
“Minelys talked about her daughter a lot. She treasured her daughter,” Tovor said.
Authorities say it is unclear why the victim was at the WalMart on the night of her disappearance, or whether she and Rivera-Sanches have any connection to one another. Witnesses reported seeing two separate cars—a dark SUV and a gold minivan—orbiting Rodriguez-Ramirez in the parking lot that evening.
An autopsy is currently being conducted. Rivera-Sanches is expected to be charged with murder, though no cause of death or motive for the crime has been released.
