At 53, Mark Wahlberg is still in incredible shape. Trainer Jeff Cavaliere took a deep dive into his daily diet to break down exactly what keeps him looking ripped.
Cavaliere is a physical therapist, strength and conditioning expert, and the founder of Athlean-X, a platform known for its workout programs. He regularly shares fitness content on YouTube, along with occasional nutrition insights.
In his latest video, he breaks down a clip originally shared by Men’s Health, taking viewers through Mark Wahlberg’s entire day, reviewing everything he eats and drinks.
Wahlberg begins his day by hydrating and taking a zinc supplement. He also has a triple espresso before a morning workout.
“We can’t get behind on hydration and then play catch up all day long. Instead, for a lot of us chronically dehydrated people, we need to start drinking water early in the morning and getting ahead of that curb,” Cavaliere says.
During his workout, he has a drink with creatine and branch chain aminos. After, he refuels with fives eggs, lightly-salted pork chop, wild smoked salmon, Greek yogurt, and berries. He also has a green juice with moringa.
Lunch comes in two parts: Around 11, he eats chicken breast and thighs, sweet potato, broccoli, a bowl of fruit, and a couple of handfuls of nuts. A few hours later, he has salmon sashimi, crab salad, and chicken breast.
“I’m a big believer in the value of eating every three hours,” Cavaliere says. “It controls cravings and helps people stay more stabilized from a blood sugar level.”
Wahlberg rounds out his day with a protein-packed dinner of steak and a white fish with vegetables. And though Cavaliere approves of Wahlberg’s meals and timing, his main critique is the lack of starchy carbs on his plates.
Starchy carbs provide the necessary fuel to power through intense workouts and replenish muscle glycogen, supporting recovery. Cavaliere only advises to watch your portions, as they can be easy to overeat.
“Don’t avoid starchy carbohydrates. Just allocate 25 percent of every meal to the starchy carbohydrates,” he says.
