Texas A&M football is looking to have far fewer outbound players in the portal this year than in years past. The Aggies’ last two offseasons have seen a large number of players head for the transfer ranks, but really not too many big contributors (apart from Walter Nolen and Evan Stewart, that is).
Of course, in today’s college football, you are never going to have zero outbound players. Even if it is the coaching staff giving a gentle encouragement out the door, there is going to be some turnover—whether compelled by the player or by the staff.
The Aggies are no different in that regard. While the culture shift under Elko is making College Station a much more desirable destination than it was under the previous coaching staff, and thus the overall turnover is set to be far lower, in all likelihood, there is still going to be some flipping of the roster.
Two players have announced their intention to depart Aggieland and head elsewhere in this portal window. Akinola Ogunbiyi, a former four-star offensive lineman, and Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, a former five-star defensive lineman, have both made it known that they will be outbound via the transfer ranks.
Ogunbiyi will be headed out as a graduate transfer, and Brownlow-Dindy will be leaving as a junior by year, but with three years of eligibility remaining. There were high hopes for both, especially Dindy, but neither ended up making a huge impact during their time in Maroon and White.
The now-former Aggie OL started a few games for A&M, but was passed up on the depth chart by guys like Chase Bisontis and Kam Dewberry. Meanwhile, Brownlow-Dindy came in as a five-star with all the fanfare you might expect, but a knee injury set him back and he was never quite able to break through.
Hopefully, both will find places they can be productive in the future as they look for a new home.
