The arrests were made Wednesday by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Police got involved last week after the schools learned of what they called “inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature toward a student.” It took place on a school bus, the schools said. Police added Wednesday it happened in August while returning from an event in Syracuse.
The superintendents called it “egregious behavior,” and cancelled the remainder of the football season. However, that decision wasn’t made lightly as the team was undefeated and the top-ranked small school in the state.
One of the players, an 18-year-old, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of public lewdness and endangering the welfare.
Sheriff’s investigators can’t comment on the arrest, citing the age of the defendant and the possibility that the judge will grant youthful offender status. Police also aren’t saying if there will be more arrests.
