First Look: See likely fields for stakes at Churchill Downs, Del Mar
With Thanksgiving coming up next week, the menu is light for graded stakes this weekend, with only four on the schedule.
Churchill Downs and Del Mar each will offer two stakes. Here is an early look at the likely fields.
Saturday
Commonwealth Turf (G3), Churchill Downs, 1 1/16 miles (turf), 3-year-olds
Herchee had two wins and a second heading into the Bryan Station (G3), where her third-place finish was better than three others from that race entered here. My Boy Prince, Canada’s 2-year-old champion last year, is 0-for-2 this year and was ninth in the Bryan Station. Ak Sar Ben Derby broke his maiden in August and came back to win the Hawthorne Derby by a head.

Positano Sunset was second by a neck last out in a 1 1/16-mile optional claiming allowance at Keeneland, her first start at more than seven furlongs. Fancy has three wins and a second from five starts this year and was second by a neck in the Groupie Doll to Pigalle, also entered here.

Mixto got his first win of the year in the Pacific Classic (G1) before finishing 11th in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. In his first start since finishing second in this race last year, Skinner was runner-up in an optional-claiming allowance on Nov. 1. Tarantino could return to stakes company here after two straight scores, including a win last out. That victory was by a head over Imagination, with another head to Ultra Power, both of whom are possible here.
