RACELAND, Ky. (WCHS) — Several crews responded to a fire overnight at a historic horse racing track in Greenup County, Kentucky.
The fire was reported just after 2:30 a.m. Thursday at a building referred to as the “jockey house” at the Raceland Race Track, which operated in the 1920s, according to a news release from the Raceland Fire Department.
The structure, which sits near U.S. 23 and Legion Drive, was fully engulfed and completely destroyed in the fire.
As of 5:45 a.m., firefighters said the blaze was under control and are remaining on scene to assess the area.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, the news release said.
Crews from Raceland, Wurtland, Russell and Flatwoods fire departments responded to the blaze.
