PEORIA (25News Now) – The Peoria Fire Department said a fire that broke out in a sauna of a soon-to-be opened fitness center caused an estimated $200,000 damage.
Peoria firefighters and paramedics were called shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday to Titan Fitness. which is under construction in the 2900 block of West Townline Road in Northwest Peoria.
Firefighters said they found heavy smoke coming from a sauna that was in one of the bathrooms. Crews opened the sauna and found heavy fire had spread to the ceiling, said Battalion Chief Rick Waldron.
Firefighters searched ceilings and walls to determine if the fire had spread to other parts of the large building.
Waldron said the fire department was one the scene for several hours ventilating smoke.
No injuries were reported, and the fire department’s investigator found the cause to be accidental.
Titan Fitness on Townline Road was supposed to open later this month.
