A fight broke out after the unranked Michigan Wolverines defeated the No. 2 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.
The Wolverines defeated the Buckeyes, 13-10, in a thriller on Saturday. The Wolverines have now beaten the Buckeyes four years in a row.
Here’s another angle of how things proceeded after the game.
The game was eventful, as it has been for the last handful of years. However, immediately after the game, a couple of Michigan members tried to plant their flag on the Ohio State logo.
Members of Ohio State saw that and responded with some shoving and punches toward their rivals. This rivalry was already one of the most heated ones in sports, and things were taken to the next level after Saturday’s contest.
Not only were their punches thrown, but it appears that some members of the Michigan team were pepper sprayed by Ohio State police.
While there was a lot of commotion on the field after the game, the simple fact is that this game was similar to the past three. The Wolverines dominated the line of scrimmage, rushing for 172 yards to Ohio State’s 72.
Michigan, who never had an elite passing attack this season, did what they did best: They rushed the ball 42 times and averaged 4.1 yards per rush. Ohio State had only 26 rush attempts and rushed for 3.0 yards per rush.
Both teams combined for only six penalties and four turnovers, three of which came in the red zone. Michigan dominated the time of possession as well, as they had the ball for 33:35 minutes while the Buckeyes had the ball for 26:25.
This now moves the Wolverines to a 7-5 overall record and a winning record in conference play at 5-4. As for the Buckeyes, they now drop to 10-2 on the second and 7-2 in the conference. The Buckeyes are likely out of the Big Ten title race, with Penn State and Indiana still being in contention for a trip to Indianapolis.
Both teams needed Ohio State to lose, and they both got their wish.
Ohio State will now go another year without participating in the Big Ten title game. They last played in a conference champion game in 2020, when they defeated Northwestern.
Ohio State could still be in the 12-team playoff, but they will not receive a first-round bye as they hoped they would prior to Saturday’s game.
