The 45th running of the $250,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles highlights the Saturday card at Tampa Bay Downs. The race awards “Road to the Kentucky Derby” qualifying points to the top five finishers on a 20-10-6-4-2 scale.
Also scheduled Saturday are the 45th edition of the Suncoast Stakes, a one mile, 40-yard points prep for the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks, also offering 20-10-6-4-2 points.
The Sam F. Davis is the 11th race, with an expected post time of 5:14 p.m. EST. The Suncoast is the ninth race.
The Sam F. Davis has drawn a field of 10 3-year-olds, with much of the pre-race buzz being generated by unbeaten Grade 2 winner Poster; Owen Almighty, who finished first in the Pasco Stakes at Tampa Bay on Jan. 11, only to be disqualified to fifth for interference on the far turn; and Naughty Rascal, elevated to first by the stewards in the Pasco for his third career stakes victory.
Poster, who is owned by his breeder Godolphin and trained by Eoin Harty, drew the no. 7 post position for the Sam F. Davis. He will be ridden by Antonio Gallardo. Owen Almighty, who will be ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., drew the 6 post. He is owned by Flying Dutchmen Breeding and Racing and trained by Brian Lynch.
Naughty Rascal, who is owned by Mr Pug and J.P.G. 2 and trained by Gerald Bennett, will break from the no. 8 post.

In the Suncoast, another Godolphin homebred, Deloraine, will seek her first career dirt victory for trainer Harty. Her first start at Tampa Bay Downs, on Dec. 13 on the turf, resulted in an 8 1/4-length victory under Jesus Castanon, who is named for a return assignment.
Deloraine could be usurped as the favorite by La Cara, a daughter of 2007 Tampa Bay Derby and Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense. La Cara won the Pocahontas Stakes (G3) in September at Churchill Downs and finished fifth on Nov. 1 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar.
Bred and owned by Tracy Farmer, she is trained by Mark Casse and will be ridden by Dylan Davis.
Another expected strong contender is Dancing Magic, who won the seven-furlong Gasparilla Stakes at Tampa Bay on Jan. 11. Junior Alvarado will be aboard again for owner Mellon Patch and trainer Michael Campbell.
