ON TOP OF THE WORLD — A male pedestrian was killed early Wednesday when he was hit by a golf cart in this retirement community. Here’s what we know:
Where did it happen? In the 9300 block of Southwest 94th Street in On Top of the World.
What time did first responders receive the call? James Lucas of Marion County Fire Rescue said his agency was assigned the call at 6:47 a.m. and arrived at 6:55 a.m. The victim was pronounced deceased two minutes later.
Any other first responders at the scene? Yes, the Florida Highway Patrol.
What happened? Troopers said the mechanized vehicle, driven by a 93-year-old woman, was westbound in the eastbound multimodal path of 94th Street. FHP officials said the pedestrian was walking westbound in the eastbound multimodal path of the roadway. The front of the cart struck him from behind. The golf cart driver stopped.

Officials said the person, a 84-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the location. Both the man and woman are from Ocala, authorities said.
Law enforcement officials are still investigating the incident.
The fatality was the second in two days and the 67th for the year for the county. Last year, 92 people died in traffic-related crashes in unincorporated Marion. These numbers do not include traffic fatalities in the cities of Ocala, Belleview and Dunnellon.
