EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. – Jeff Fang completed another stellar tournament this week at the Hamptons Intercollegiate, finishing ninth place in the field of 66 golfers. The senior captain defeated a number of highly ranked collegiate golfers in the field to record his fifth career top 10 finish. Fang and the Crimson finished in eighth place as a team in the highly competitive field at the Maidstone Club.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson made its way to the Hamptons this week to compete in the Hamptons Intercollegiate for the second consecutive season. The Maidstone Club, a Golf Digest top 100 course in the nation, hosted the Crimson and several other highly ranked NCAA golf teams this Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 7-8).
- Harvard opened the tournament with a score of 20-over-par score of 308 in the first round. The team was slotted in eighth place after the first round concluded.
- Jeff Fang positioned himself atop the leaderboard after 18 holes, carding an even-par round of 72. First-years Barry Zhang and William Ma also recorded solid rounds of 77 and 78, respectively.
- The second round was Harvard’s best at the Maidstone Club as the Crimson posted a team score of one-over-par to jump up into seventh place in the field with its tournament score of 21-over-par.
- Fang caught fire in the second round, shooting a three-under-par round of 69 after nearly going bogey-free. The senior recorded five birdies to catapult himself up the leaderboard into second place in the field. Ma also had a great second round, shooting a 71 after carding four birdies and an eagle.
- The Crimson posted a 15-over-par team score in the third round to position itself in eighth place in the field at the conclusion of the tournament. Harvard finished above Penn, Yale, Georgetown and Howard at the Maidstone club with its tournament score of 36-over-par.
- Fang posted a three-over-par round of 75 in the final 18 holes which had him at even-par in the tournament. His score of 216 (E) slotted him in ninth-place in the highly-competitive field. Barry Zhang battled back to post his best round in the tournament in the third round, carding an even par 72 to jump up into T29.
